A number of NAG members participated in the ASA Meeting in New Orleans (4-8 December 2017). Jay Bliefnick, Ian Hough, Jared Paine (summer intern), Sam Underwood, Lily Wang and Jon Weber all presented technical papers and posters in a number of sessions, some of which were live streamed. Jay and Ian both received Student Travel Awards from the National Council of Acoustical Consultants, to attend and present their work. Jay’s paper ‘Evaluating Hospital Soundscapes to Improve Patient Experience’ received a Young Presenter in Noise Award from the Technical Committee in Noise – congratulations, Jay!
There were a large number of NAG alums at the conference, many of whom stopped by NAG Board Game Night after the TCAA meeting on Tuesday – we particularly enjoyed the games ‘Wits and Wagers Party Edition’ and ‘Secret Hitler’. Other highlights of the meeting included: a capella singing on Monday evening, NAG member Anna Catton as the live stream guru for the meeting, getting folks to measure restaurant noise with the SoundPrint app, a Hunt Fellows 40th Anniversary celebration, and the kickoff of the Campaign for ASA Early Career Leadership. Lastly, we offer congratulations to NAG alums Dr. David T. Bradley, Dr. Lauren Ronsse, and Dr. Erica Ryherd who received a 2017 ASA Science Writing Award for the book they edited: ‘Worship Space Acoustics: 3 Decades of Design’! All in all, it was a great meeting, both professionally and personally.
